Why Varicose Veins Are Dangerous As Well As Painful

Womenshealth.gov reports that approximately 50 to 55 percent of women and about 40 to 45 percent of men suffer from some form of varicose vein problem. You can get varicose veins from standing too much and putting constant pressure on your legs. You can get them from your genetics. You can get varicose veins when you’re pregnant, or overweight, or too much exposure to the sun. But the bottom line is that varicose veins are more than painful or unsightly. As they grow larger because of built-up pressure in your veins, they can actually rupture and case a hemorrhage, which can cause a blood clot in your legs that could be limb-threatening. Even worse, a clot in your lungs or heart can be life-threatening.
