“I had the Closure procedure on February 20th 2007and February 21st, It has been one month today. I am sleeping better then I have in years. On my first night, the only leg that I had pain in was the one that hadn't been done yet. The left leg was first and the one with the most problems. The area on the leg where the closure was performed had some bruising and was just a little tender at worst. The right leg went well. I believe that the closure procedure has helped with my restless legs and PMDD symptoms. I can finally get in bed and go to sleep! Before I would get in bed and my legs would hurt and move and I would have to get out and rub them. I had a hard time falling asleep and I felt tired all day. I've always had PMS as a young woman; I am now 53and it has moved on to PMDD. I would swell all over the first two day and all I felt like doing was lying down. This was not like me at all.

“It has been six months since my surgery & one sclerotherapy treatment beginning September 2006, and I am pleased with my results. My main concern and reason for the closure procedure was pain, mainly in my right inner thigh, but getting more progressive in the left leg too; and swelling, that was not only masking the problems in my lower legs but getting worse as I aged. I am happy to report that the pain is, for the most part, non-existent now, and I have also benefited by some cosmetic change also. I always understood that I would have to follow-up with sclerotherapy but I can see about 50% improvement in the lower leg veins running down my shinbones 6 months post surgery. My greatest comfort, though, is the absence of the pain, tenderness, and heaviness in both my legs, which was constant and affecting my life. “I started having circulatory problems which inhibited much of my physical activity. I suffered from foot swelling, itching and severe varicose veins. After seeing many doctors, and no treatment corrected the problem, it was Dr. Calure who diagnosed the vein problem. He advised ablation of the leaky vein. This was done on an outpatient basis. As he predicted, the foot swelling subsided, the leg pain disappeared, and the veins themselves are fading away. My ability to walk has improved; I can now walk my dog a half mile or more. I work at the Library of Congress and I do research. So, I did hours of research on varicose vein treatments and then additional hours on finding the right physician. By the time I was done, Dr. Jonathan Calure's name was the only one on my list for two major reasons. He offered ALL possible treatment options for varicose veins and he was a preferred provider for my insurance. After my research I would not go to an office that offered only sclerotheraphy, which was everyone else. I'd already had sclerotherapy and it had failed. When Dr. Calure came to get me himself from the waiting room within a minute of my arrival and was personable, I had an idea that this would be better than most of my medical experiences. I was right. Dr. Calure said that the word physician meant teacher, and his job was to teach his patients. He then took the time to instruct me in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, well, actually venous insufficiency. The ultrasound exam definitely confirmed my symptoms and my need for treatment. Dr. Calure fit me into his schedule, working late one day, so that the two surgeries and follow-up protocol could be complete before I left on holiday (thank you!). While I have learned to dread any and all medical procedures, the actual surgery was remarkably comfortable with only a few "ouch" moments. The discomfort was less than having a tooth filled. Because Dr. Calure is so careful with appropriate sterile protocols and he takes time for the necessary preparation for the best outcome, the result is a somewhat long procedure. I didn't mind. Afterward I only had two days of very minor aches and little pains that came and went in my legs. The total discomfort was certainly less than what I was experiencing from my dysfunctional veins before the surgery. After my first procedure, I took some Tylenol before I went to bed, just as a prophylactic because the operation was done in the evening and I didn't want to be woken by pain.

When I had my second leg done, this time in the morning, I returned to work and completed a 10-hour workday. I didn't need to take anything for discomfort. Now the bad part, the torture tights, also known as Jobst medical stockings. Dr. Calure had explained why these were a crucial part of the treatment, so I endured. I cannot tolerate these things, but I have worn them in 100% compliance to his instructions. The inspiration for this was Dr. Calure's comment that the only person for whom this procedure did not succeed was the one who did not wear her stockings. My skin gets horribly inflamed and itchy from the pressure, my feet ache terribly, and they are just simply uncomfortable, but I have persisted in wearing them as prescribed. I've also taken a lot of Benadryl. Otherwise there was no point in having the surgery. Now the good part. The first time I took off my stockings I noticed an immediate improvement in the appearance of my leg, even though that was not the purpose of the surgery. The improvements have continued post-surgery. Other than the really, really bad discomfort from the stockings, I have no more pain in my legs either. I must also mention Dr. Calure's staff. I have not been in a doctor's office where there are so many pleasant people. It just doesn't usually happen, but Dr. Calure has the gift of a staff that is competent, with caring and compassionate attitudes toward their patients. I wish all doctors treated their patients as Dr. Calure and his support staff does. I would recommend him highly to anyone with venous insufficiency, as in, don't even bother to go anywhere else.
